This course works towards the Gundog Club Grade's 4 & 5 Field Tests

What it's About...

This course works towards the Grade 4 & 5 Field Test of the Gundog Club Graded Scheme and puts a lot of emphasis on proficiency in the skilled areas such as hunting, retrieving, and obedience, and tests that your dog's skills have come together to form the beginnings of a strong working relationship.


Shot is to be used on Grade 4 and 5 Assessments, where it is ok for the welfare of the dogs i.e., they are not gun-shy.


Introduction to fur and feather dummies is used in Grade 4.


If the owner is ok with cold game. Cold game should typically be used for Grade 5, but if not, then fur and feather dummies can be used in its place.


The Graded assessments are in multiple areas:


  • Obedience
  • Retrieving
  • Hunting (Spaniels & HPRs)

Topics Include:

 

  • Heelwork - off lead connection, direction changes & learning to ignore distractions
  • Hunting Up (Spaniels & HPRs)
  • Walk Up & Honouring
  • Use of shot (starting pistol) for most retrieves
  • Marking at a further distance
  • Blind Retrieves at a further distance
  • Jumping over and through obstacles & water
  • ... plus much more...


Please note, dogs must be able to cope and stay in the car during the breaks or happy to be tethered


Open to all breeds of gundogs, these classes will challenge handler and dog skills, on different terrains and grounds, and as well as working towards the Gundog Club Grades 4 & 5, also help prepare for working tests and on-shoot scenarios out in the field.


For those wishing to take the Gundog Club Assessments, the costs are:

  • Grade 4 is £58
  • Grade 5 is £60

  • Please note that refunds will not be given if you are no longer able to attend your booking, your female dogs come into season or they are ill during the course and you're no longer able to continue.
  • Places are not confirmed until payment has been received. If you reserve a place choosing to book via BACs but someone pays before you - unfortunately they'll get the place.


  • A session may be covered over a live Zoom session if the weather is too cold/severe in the Winter months, or too hot in the Summer months, this is for the welfare of your dogs.
